Google is Killing Inbox

Posted September 13, 2018

On the back end, Inbox was the same thing as Gmail, and worked with your existing Gmail address. Google has announced the Inbox is going away in March of next year.

But in an overhaul to Gmail this year, Google implemented numerous innovative features that were introduced in Inbox. This added functionality pulled a good number of users away from Gmail as they added to the email experience without combining the usual headaches caused by using third-party email clients. Currently, one absent feature is bundles which groups similar emails into a single block.

The closure of Inbox was hinted at when Google rolled out the new Gmail to users earlier in the year. After that, you're free to delete the Gmail Offline Chrome app and then continue forward using only Gmail for web.

Tennessee's top two draft picks also are linebackers, and Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry both missed the opener with injuries. And when the game finally returned from the second lengthy weather delay, Fox wasn't quite ready to return in full form.

Google also offers alternatives to features of Inbox which have not been added to the Gmail yet. You could just use the pre-loaded labels like updates, purchases, trips, and so on, but Inbox supported custom labels as well. This merging of features led to uncertainty about the future of Inbox, and ultimately, to its demise. However, there is a pretty big following for Inbox, so Google may face some backlash here. Back in the day, the Gmail app or desktop experience would come with limited options, making Inbox by Gmail a platform to create/expand on ideas.

The souped-up version of Gmail that was released in April included some features familiar to Inbox users as well as newer goodies like "Smart Compose", which helps users whip out emails faster. And I have six months to mull this over. But.

As per the given timeline, Google can be expected to introduce other features from Inbox into the Gmail desktop and app.
