That demographic is expected to sustain the heist film throughout June, even as "Incredibles 2" and "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" are expected to post $100 million-plus openings over the next two weeks. Completely banished by the core fans of the franchise who didn't see a reason for the beloved movies from the 1980s starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis to be given the all-female cast relaunch, the movie only took in $229.1 million worldwide for its lifetime box office.
With an all-star cast led by ever-popular Sandra Bullock and supported by Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Rihanna, the Warner Bros. film was Hollywood's latest experiment - after "Ghostbusters" - in replacing an all-male cast with female stars.
A gender-flipped version of the "Ocean's Eleven" heist franchise, starring some of the best-known women in Hollywood, opened as the No. 1 film in USA and Canadian theaters. It also fell behind the opening weekends of each of "Ocean's Eleven" through "Thirteen", when adjusted for inflation.
Ocean's 8 is Sandra Bullock's first movie in nearly three years.
Ocean's 8 is making out like a bandit. Females accounted for 69 per cent of audiences, while 69 per cent were over the age of 25.

The existing engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric drives and the body shop will also be developed. The Mission E concept generates almost 600bhp via a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors, one on each axle.
It helps, too, that Ocean's 8 should have strong legs throughout the month, as one of the few choices outside of traditional blockbusters for older adults, who are more likely to wait until the second and third weekends to see a movie. The film now has a B+ CinemaScore and 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Still, that was a record for indie studio A24; as Deadline noted, "Heredity" topped their previous big opener - "The Witch" - by almost 40 percent.
"Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" began its global rollout in 48 overseas markets with an estimated $151.1 million, said Universal Pictures.
Not doing so well was Hotel Artemis, which had a disappointing $3.1 million debut. Set in a near-future Los Angeles, "Hotel Artemis" is about a members-only hospital for criminals.
Warner Bros. spent $70 million on the production, and millions more marketing the picture. The Focus Features release grossed $470,000 in 29 theaters for a per-theater average of about $16,000.
"There's a lot of women-powered revenue at the box office in the heat of the summer season", said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore.
