Posted June 07, 2018

Warner Bros.is looking to expand on Jared Leto's version of the Joker, which debuted in 2016's "Suicide Squad", with a movie of his own.

Despite yesterday's news about the new Jared Leto project, Deadline reports that Warner Bros.is still developing the Joker origin movie from Todd Phillips. It has already announced a movie on Harley Quinn, Joker's lover, who was played by Academy Award-nominated Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad. To make matters worse, Suicide Squad was marketed to look like it was Leto's movie, which it clearly wasn't. While the critics responded poorly to Suicide Squad, the film was a huge box office success, raking in $746.8 million worldwide.

There has been no update on Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, to be directed by Matt Reeves. Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in talks star as the iconic comic book villain in that incarnation, but the studio has always been clear that those plans didn't signal the end for Leto's Joker.

The internet has not reacted positively to the news of Leto getting his own movie. Now, there's two Joker movies in development.

Despite earning awful reviews, "Suicide Squad" (2016) made Warner Bros. nearly $747 million at the worldwide box office.

It's now unknown when this particular Joker film starring Leto would go into production, as the project has yet to hire a writer to pen the script.

When Jared Leto's unusual portrayal of the Joker made an appearance in Warner Bros' Suicide Squad movie, I think it's safe to say that many people were left a little disappointed and underwhelmed after all the hype around the actor's performance. All six - yes, you read that correctly - six of them.
