The opportunity for explosive plays in the running game is there for the Seahawks on Sunday.
Sean McVay isn't infallible. For the Seahawks, it has been their inability to stop the run consistently as they now rank 27th at 134 rushing yards per game allowed.
Reality returned to the Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. They held a solid Rams offense to just 10 points and really gave Russell Wilson and the offense a chance to pull away at any point. "He's got to continue to work and get better, and I think he will do that".
The play had significant repercussions for the Rams, who ended up losing 16-10.
"He's got a strained groin that's going to likely keep him from getting back", Carroll said on Friday morning. Goff marched the Rams down the field with only seconds remaining, completing a 35-yard pass to Higbee and a 20-yard pass to Woods. Goff heads into this weekend's action sporting 7 touchdowns, 1 interception, and a 112.2 passer rating.
Rookie receiver Cooper Kupp had a fantastic game, catching five passes for 60 yards and scoring a touchdown.
If anything, though, that points to progress.
It wasn't pretty, but Seattle's defense forced a whopping five turnovers to outweigh a troubling trend of allowing the Rams to convert long third downs and the offense's difficulty putting points on the board.
Entering the game, the Rams were undefeated inside the Coliseum all-time against Seattle, with a blowout win on October 31, 1976 and a 9-6 win in the home opener last season.
We probably should have known better, considering Jeff Fisher was in charge and Case Keenum was at quarterback. Now, they might actually be good.
It's not as though the dam broke on the Rams. This marks the first time that Bennett has stood for the national anthem this season. The previously red-hot Todd Gurley was unremarkable, and the normally reliable Greg Zuerlein pushed a 36-yard kick wide right, a field goal that would have made a huge difference. Tyler Higbee contributed 47 yards in three catches. It's hard to expect much more from a defense facing Wilson.
But the lack of rushes? The ball, however, was already loose and hit the pylon for a touchback. Throw in J.D. McKissic's two carries for no yards and Seattle's tailbacks had just 39 yards on 19 carries.
The Rams have surprisingly jumped to the fifth ranked passing attack.
"If he can go, great", McVay said of Joyner.
"We won't miss very many of those".
The red-zone issues aren't new.
No such luck this time. Sammy Watkins was invisible.
Tavon Austin might be ousted as the Rams' punt returner. Even ultra-reliable punter Johnny Hekker shanked an attempt. The Rams sacked him three times, all in the first half (Robert Quinn sacked Wilson for the 11th time).
The Seahawks come into this contest sporting a 2-2 record that ties them with the Arizona Cardinals for 2 place in the NFC West.
Joeckel said after the game nothing had been decided but that it would just be a minor surgery. "And for our guys to come through and finish like that, that's as exciting as the game gets".
