Dolphins' defeat Titans despite another lackluster performance from offense

GARDENS, Fla. - It was painful to watch the Tennessee Titans try to muster an offense without Marcus Mariota.

Head coach Mike Mularkey of the Tennessee Titans looks on during action against the Oakland Raiders in the first half at Nissan Stadium on September 10, 2017, In Nashville, Tenn.

While the play here is on the Titans, the handicap is nearly all about the Dolphins. He's also logged 20 carries for 116 yards and three scores. "Let them hold the ball, let them go on long drives, never gave our offense a chance to get the ball back", LeBeau said. The ball squirted forward 14 yards, and Jones scooped it as other players stopped, thinking the play had ended with an incomplete pass.

Mariota has the ability to scramble for several yards on that play, or at least use his mobility to get out of the pocket and make a throw downfield or out of bounds. A 59-yard touchdown reception by Delanie Walker was negated by a pass interference penalty on Jonnu Smith.

After amassing a 10-6 record previous year, the Dolphins (1-2) found themselves lagging behind the New England Patriots (3-2) and the surprising leader Buffalo Bills (3-1) in the AFC East standings.

Tennessee defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is not someone to sweep a poor performance under the rug or ignore any issues.

Oh, for those who might not have seen it, it was every bit as bad as that score sounds in every facet of the game.

"We didn't ask him to do very much, we were smart with him", Mularkey said.

"I didn't know what they were saying, and I don't think anyone was going to tell me what they were saying", Cutler said. Jay Cutler had 92 yards, one touchdown and threw an interception trying to extend a play. Even if Cassel ends up playing, I still like Tennessee.

Parker was forced out of Sunday's game against the Titans with an ankle injury. The Indianapolis Colts will have the same game plan next Monday night.

"I feel better about that one than this one", coach Mike Mularkey said with a smile after the game.

The second leg of the teaser is a classic case of a superior team playing at home needing to do little more than win outright. Kaepernick's agent is reportedly having conversations with teams throughout the league to show Kaepernick's interest. And this game the defense carried the team to a win scoring a TD, sacking backup QB Matt Cassel six times and often otherwise bailing out an offense that is just putting on training wheels.
